Dr. Lê Văn Châu

(Penname: Trang Châu)
Winner of the National Literary Prize with Y Sĩ Tiền Tuyến (Frontline Physicians), a chronicle about physicians in active warzone, Dr. Lê Văn Châu studied at Institut de la Provide in central Vietnam and graduated from Sài Gòn University’s Medical Faculty in 1965.
Dr. Lê Văn Châu served in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam in many capacities including Chief Divisional Surgeon and Chief Editor of Military Medical Journal. Resettled in Montreal, Canada, Dr. Lê was among the very first Vietnamese physicians in Quebec. In 1988 Dr. Lê volunteered with Médecins du Monde on the Mary Kingstown to rescue almost 400 Vietnamese boat people.
Dr. Lê Văn Châu is a flourishing poet and writer, whose works are published in numerous literary magazines such as Văn Học, Văn, Làng Văn, Thế Kỷ 21, Khởi Hành,Thư Quán,Thư Viện Sáng Tạo, Việt Thức, Diễn Dàn Thế Kỷ, Nguyệt Mai, Viet Life Styles.
Dr. Lê Văn Châu’s vast collection of published works include Tình Một Thưở (1964), Y Sĩ Tiền Tuyến (1965), Giải Thích (1972), Thơ Trang Châu (1989), Về Biển Đông (1995), Dì Thu (2000), Thơ Tuyển (2007), Người ăn trưa trong xe (2013), 12 Truyện Ngắn 12 bài Thơ (2017).
Dr. Lê Văn Châu served as VNAPC President from 1991 to 1993 and presently President of the VNAPC Quebec-Ontario Chapter. He was Chair of the VNAPC 11th Congress Organizing Committee in December 2017.

Nguyễn Văn Nghiêm

(Penname: Nguyễn Thiếu Nhẫn, Lão Móc, Ký giả Vịt Trời)
Undisputedly Nguyễn Văn Nghiêm is the unsurpassed champion of satire in Vietnamese literature during the past quarter of a century with beloved or disliked pennames (depending on perspectives) such as Lão Móc (Critical Old Man), Ký giả Vịt Trời (Loon, the Reporter).
A captain of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam who endured eight (8) years in various Communist prisons across the country, Nguyễn Văn Nghiêm escaped from Socialist Vietnam on a refugee boat and then resettled in the United States in 1987.
As a masterful writer, Nguyễn Văn Nghiêm publishes daily columns on a variety of subjects and questions almost every aspect of Vietnamese life. With a crystal grasp of history and old tales, a deep well of knowledge, Nguyễn Văn Nghiêm’s writings awake the sense of caution in readers who face political and social propaganda that serve little purposes, save and except enriching the perpetrators. He is one of the very – very – few writers who for decades have had the courage to publicly and continually object to the persecution and murder of Vietnamese journalists.
Many of Nguyễn Văn Nghiêm’s published books include Người đàn bà mang thai trên biển Đông (1990, 2005), Cơn Bão Giữa đời (1992), Quà Tặng Những Kẻ Yêu Nhau (1992), Máu Mực Bể Dâu (2002), Mưa Trên Sông Đồng Nai (2003), Thiên Hạ Phong Trần (2004), Nguyễn Thiếu Nhẫn Tuyển Tập (2010). In this vast collection of works, Nguyễn Văn Nghiêm’s most notable book is Người đàn bà mang thai trên biển Đông which was translated into English as The Life Stories: Pregnant Women At Sea.
The Life Stories: Pregnant Women At Sea portrays the vivid image of a courageous daughter/wife/mother possessing complex feelings. Nguyễn Văn Nghiêm subtly exposes a unique angle of the complicated nature of life consisted of struggles and triumphs. He successfully portrays an ornate and metaphorical image of a resolute and serene Vietnamese woman whose selfless devotion, endless passion and unfailing optimism assisted her to overcome life’s tragic challenges.
Nguyễn Văn Nghiêm is President of the VNAPC Northwestern Chapter.

Nguyễn Đáng

(Penname: Lam Kiều, Đăng Nguyên)
A former student of the famed Huế National Academy, Nguyễn Đáng served honorably as captain the Army of the Republic of Vietnam.
Nguyễn Đáng is a flourishing poet, whose works are published in numerous literary magazines such as Cụm Hoa Tình Yêu, Gọi Nhau, Đồng Tâm, Làng Văn, Thế Giới Ngày Nay, Văn Học Miền Đông. Tập San Văn Bút Việt Nam Hải Ngoại, Tam Cá Nguyệt San Cỏ Thơm , Kỷ Nguyên Mới, Đặc San Văn Bút Miền Đông, etc.
Nguyễn Đáng was awarded Huế National Academy’s prizes in poetry. He authored two (2) volumes of poetic works, Đã Khô Dòng Lệ (Dried River of Tears) in 2004 and Dòng Mực Tha Hương (River of Ink in Exile) in 2015.
A well-liked and highly-respected poet, Nguyễn Đáng is President of the VNAPC Northeastern Chapter in Washington, D.C.

Đàm Đức Sơn

(Penname: Thiên Nam)
Đàm Đức Sơn resides in Toronto, Canada, and was the Election Commissioner during the VNAPC’s 11th Congress in 2017.
Đàm Đức Sơn was also a member of the Organizing Committee of the VNAPC’s Summer Camp in Houston, Texas, in August 2016.
Born in Pleiku, South Vietnam, resettled in Canada in 1989. Đàm Đức Sơn graduated from the University of Toronto in Industrial Engineering in 1997. An engineer by profession, Đàm Đức Sơn started and presently manages several successful businesses such as Sonnam Computers and Sonnam Investments Inc.
Đàm Đức Sơn is Vice-President of VNAPC Quebec-Ontario Chapter (formerly Canada Chapter).

Tạo Ân

Tạo Ân is an eloquent poet who also possesses impressive talents in both music and information technology.
Born in South Vietnam, a student at Lasan Mossard in Thủ Đức then St. Stanislaus in St. Louis, Tạo Ân graduated from Divine Word College in theology, University of New Orleans in Mechanical Engineering and undertook graduate study at University of South Florida.
Residing in Orlando, FL, Tạo Ân has been an active VNAPC member and was the Deputy Election Commissioner during the VNAPC’s 11th Congress in 2017. He is the Webmaster for PENVietnam.org and one of the principals on its Editorial Board.
Besides being an official Advisor to the Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre, Tạo Ân also assumes the Vice-President post of the Association of Artists for Liberty and manages its website.
A talented stage performer, Tạo Ân is assigned the enormous responsibility as Master of Ceremony for the official Celebration marking the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Vietnamese Aboard PEN Centre in Washington, D.C., in March 2018.
